BACKGROUND

History of the Great Canadian - Indian Truck Show

For more than a hundred years East Indians [South Asians] have resided in North America. East Indians first immigrated to the cities of San Francisco, California, United States of America and Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in the late 1800s.

During the early 20th Century the East Indian helped in developing North America. Rugged, hard working, tireless, men of East India descent helped in constructing the railways in particularly British Columbia. These men and women then moved further into the transportation sector. Now, the Western Seaboard in North America exhibits a high percentage of East Indians in Trucking, Construction, and Farming. The East Indians over the last 40 years have shown a great stride in the transportation sector in Ontario as well.

Over the last 4 decades Brampton has grown from a small industrial town to a large transportation hub not only in Canada but in North America. It is no surprise that most East Indians have taken into the trucking lifestyle. The culture is rich, and the industry is rich as well. The rewards are great. In an industry that is the backbone of the economy, in an industry that never stops, the road never ends.

The Great Canadian - Indian Truck Show is to highlight not only the professionalism and dedication of East Indians, West Indians, South Asians, but to also highlight Canadians within this multicultural society. This show will be the first of its' kind in North America - there has never been an Indian, South Asian truck show. Hand in hand, should to shoulder, Canadians have helped the East Indian community and the East Indian Community has helped fellow Canadians.

This show is a salute to the men and women involved in the trucking industry. In honour and to recognize those, that live their lives day in, day out, out and about; from sea to shining sea; from coast to coast.

Those that attend will become part of the legend, only to live on and grow year after year - making it a great annual event.
